Valentine's Day

The kids enjoyed handing out Valentines to their classmates this week.  It's always such an exciting time in the classroom!

In a related Valentine's heart theme, we also explored how the heart pumps blood. We saw evidence that the heart is a muscle which squeezes blood, similar to a squeeze toy that squeezes water. Then we did an activity that combines science with art, where students figured out how big their own heart was, took their pulse, and created a Valentine's card to their heart.

You can encourage your child's curiosity at home! Ask them to explain to you: "what exactly is happening when the heart makes that 'thump thump' sound?"
