Blueberry Studies

We focused our Maine studies on blueberries this week (Maine's state berry is the Wild Maine Blueberry).  We discussed the history of the blueberry, the first uses by the Native Americans hundreds of years ago, how it became our official state berry with the help of an elementary school student, and lots more.  We couldn't study Maine blueberries without a couple of things...first, we needed to read Robert McCloskey's Blueberries for Sal.  Second, we had to eat some blueberries!  I brought in some Maine blueberries for the kids to try on Friday.  I also brought in some chocolate covered Maine blueberries!  The class was pretty split on whether they liked the blueberries with or without the chocolate covering.
