The Birth of Rocks

This week in science we started our unit of geology which we're calling "The Birth of Rocks."  We learned about volcanoes and where they exist in the world.  In the pictures below the students are working with a partner to plot the location of volcanoes that have erupted in the last few hundred years in order to find patterns.  These patterns helped them determine whether a volcano is likely to pop up in our backyard here in Old Town, Maine.  Ask them what they discovered about that...should we be worried???  I'm also including a link to some amazing pictures of active volcanoes.  Show these to your child; it's guaranteed to be a conversation starter about what they learned!
