Outrageous Summer Vacation Stories

Mr. Rand's class recently read "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" by Mark Teague.  It's about a boy who makes up an outrageous summer vacation story to tell his teacher at the beginning of the school year.

After reading the story, they created their own outrageous summer vacation stories.  Here are a few sentences from some of their stories.  The kids will be bringing these stories home soon, so make sure to ask your child to see theirs if you want to read the whole thing.

Ryan wrote about winning a trip to space.  Here's a bit of his story... "I looked around.  Everything was made of food!  Trees made of chicken legs, clouds made of cotton candy, rivers flowing with milk, and wild gummy bears hunting candy fish in the streams!"

Izzy wrote about a boy telling his teacher about his summer vacation.  She wrote... "I tromped up to the front of the room.  My lip curved into a smile!  'This summer I...went to the White House!  But, I didn't take a car, or a plane, or a train...I flew!"

Kyle wrote a lively story about crazy garden bugs... "I got on the ladybug and flew away.  My cousin Sam was on a dragonfly, I call him Dream Boy.  He made a funny face.  It distracted me and I fell off the ladybug."

These are just a few examples of the outrageous stories the kids came up with.  Make sure to ask your child to see theirs!
