Science Extra Credit Story #3

Here is the third and final extra credit story.  This one was written by Izzy from Mr. Rand's room.

Keep Going
by Izzy

As Rosy prowled the grasslands that late August afternoon, something moved in the dry grass to the right of her.  Her head moved quickly to see what had dared to come close to a mighty lion like her, but when a tree fell and almost hit her, she thought it the other way around.  Everywhere she looked, trees collapsed just barely missing her.  Frantically, she looked around.  And there, right in front of her, was a cave.  She could hide there until the trees stopped falling.  She was on her way when, everything went blank!
Rosy pawed at the ground in front of her.  When she finally managed to get up, she looked around.  Everything was wrecked, destroyed, broke.  She was about to put the water works on when she remembered her family!
After all the hard work getting there, she couldn’t bare to look.  A tree had smashed down right in the middle of it!  It was too painful, so the only thing she could do was run.  Nothing was here for her to learn off of anymore so why should she stay?  No reasons came to her so she started on her way!
She ran.  Through tough, wretched nights, every which way trees fell!  Her legs carried her 22 miles to an empty burrow.  She would rest here and in the morning, her legs would take her to more wondrous places, but for tonight, this would be her home.
When she awoke, it was later then she had planned.  The rest did help, but she still felt pained.  Her surroundings were worse than ever!  But she had made a decision and that she wouldn’t break down, even though things were getting worse by the second, her decision was to keep going, and that was that!
She slipped her way through the course, until she found a peaceful meadow.  Food was running everywhere.  When she saw this she noticed how hungry she had been.  Inside her heart was telling her it was time, so she crouched, moving quickly but carefully, POUNCE!  Her first time catching since the grasslands!
Later that night, with a lump for a stomach, Rosy was board.  No one could play with her, for she had eaten everyone who could, so she decided to think.  The thought that really had her upset was, why was this happening to her!  Nothing came to mind, so her decision was to draw it out.  Her first drawing was of her with a loving family, then her getting mad and running off.  If she had been there, this wouldn’t have happened!  She would be home with her loving, caring family!  That was it, she was done with leaving people who cared and loved her! “Goodnight!”  She said to no one in particular and with that, she stormed off!
In Rosy’s dream she saw lot’s of traveling.  She saw something terrible, something that could scar her for life.  Good thing she had woken up in the middle of the night and knocked on wood.  Today she was putting anything bad that had happened, behind her.  She was picturing to travel far today, about 40 miles.  This made her breakfast quick, she would have to leave right after.  Today was a new day, just that.
At noon, Rosy had traveled 49 miles.  Even though she was trying to put everything behind her, it was kind of hard, for trees were falling everywhere!  Her paws were burning and she didn’t really feel like walking anymore, but if she was going to get to somewhere safe, then she’d have to keep going.
It was nearly evening when Rosy made it to an underground burrow.  She had walked 102 miles and was planning to walk even more tomorrow!  The sky was a sort of teal color.  It shined down on her like it was an important message.  She lay her head on warm paws.  They were soft like a silk pillow.  She was just nessling down when something moved in the brush!  It was definitely something big, a little mouse couldn’t make such a racket!  Her belly low, ready to pounce, when a tree landed smack dab right on her!  Next in a low whisper, “Keep going!”  And with that, the world fell silent.

Rosy’s legend rolled through out peoples homes.  She did not die, for her story is still told, and may it grow and live on throughout childrens lives, and soon may someone as brave as her travel a hard journey like she had!
