Instrument Project Details

Here are the details for the instrument project due February 24th (first day back from break).  These details were sent home about a month ago, but I thought I would post them on here in case anyone lost them.

Sound Project – Make Your Own Instrument

Due: February 24th

Your task:
Create an instrument that changes the pitch of the sound at its source.

·      You may use anything from home (some common items students have used to make instruments in the past are paper towel/toilet paper tubes, shoe boxes, elastic bands, plastic soda bottles, string, fishing line, etc.)

·      Please do not use items that are expensive or breakable on your instrument

·      You will need to be able to change the pitch of the sound that is created from your instrument (Consider what we learned in class about how length and tension affect pitch).

·      You will need to be able to describe how your instrument makes sound (What is vibrating to cause the sound?  How are you able to change the pitch?)

·      You will be presenting your instrument to your class during the week of February 24th.

·      You will be graded on the following:

o    Your creativity
o    How much effort you put into the project
o    Your ability to describe how your instrument makes sound to your classmates
Your ability to design an instrument that can make sound with
                   different pitches
