Mr. Rand's students were asked to write down the directions for cooking a turkey. This is always a fun activity so I thought I'd share a few with everyone (with my comments along the way in italics).
Some of these weren't too far off (and possibly even edible)...
How to Cook a Turkey by: Maddy
1. Get a Turkey
2. Pre-Heat oven to 250 degrees F. (uh oh)
3. Once the oven is heated put it in
4. Put the turkey in for 1 hour (uh oh again). It gives the turkey flavor!
5. After an hour put some brown sugar on it.
6. EAT!
A little low on the temp and a little short on the time, but you may be able to eat the skin without getting sick!
Task of the Turkey by: Izzy
1. Put garlic and other spices on it (yum)
2. Put it in the oven
3. Turn the oven to 350 degrees F. (so far, so good)
4. Leave it in for an hour and a half (oh no...)
5. Take it out
6. Put it on a gourmet dish
7. Stick it on the table
8. Enjoy (if you can)
P.S. try not to burn it
So close on this one, you may even be able to eat a little of the meat closer to the skin!
How to Cook a Turkey by: Noah
1. You get a pot and put the turkey in it
2. Then you turn on the oven to about 500 degrees F. (better too high than low I guess)
3. Then you put it in the oven for a few hours then take it out and let it sit for a while
4. Then when it cools enough you can eat it
I'm guessing a little black and a little dry, but gravy will take care of that!
Those are some of the few that I may dare to take a small bite of. Then there were others....
How to Cook a Turkey by: Logan
1. Take the bones out (hmmm...)
2. Cook it for 24 hours
3. Make sure it didn't explode (good thing to check I suppose)
4. Make sure it's hot
5. Cover it in gravy
6. Munch up
How to Cook a Turkey by: Paige
1. Get a turkey
2. You put it in a big fat pan (is that how the pan is labeled?)
3. Put it in the oven, wait 10 min
4. Put the oven on 350 degrees (I wonder why we didn't put the oven on until after we took the turkey out...)
5. Put anything you want on it (like gummy bears?)
6. Serve it
There were so many others that were good, so I'll make sure to send them home after vacation. Oh, and if you plan on using any of these recipes, please do so at your own risk :)
Great advice....your students are sooooooooo smart!!!!!
